Mr. James "Scoop" Tucker
November 13, 1952 - May 3, 2018
James “Scoop” Tucker was the son of Lois Moorman and was born in Santuck, South Carolina on November 13, 1952. He attended the public schools of Union County and was a member of the last class to graduate from the former Sims High School. He was most known for playing the saxophone and serving as the drum major for the marching band. Outside of school, James loved attending Mrs. Louise Ray’s Sunday School Class at St. Paul Baptist Church, where he later confessed Christ and became a member. After high school James attended two years of business school in Spartanburg, South Carolina and later moved to New Jersey with his family for employment opportunities. James started his career at American Standard as a shift leader and later worked at Catholic Charities until he retired early. Post-retirement, he became a chef at Shop Rite where he was known for making the best chicken in town. Outside of work, his two sons Jaliyr and Antione were the loves of his life. Jaliyr and his girlfriend Alecia blessed James with a wonderful grandson Ty Jier who he loved spending time with. James departed this life on May 3, 2018, at Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J. He will be most remembered for his love of music, playing baseball, cooking, and discussing sports with his Mom. His precious memory shall be cherished by his: Mom – Lois Moorman of Union, SC; Two Sons – Jalirs Tucker (Alecia – girlfriend) of New Brunswick, NJ, and Antione Tucker of Plainfield, NJ; Grandson – Ty Jier Tucker of New Brunswick, NJ; Special Aunt – Floree Tucker of Highland Park, NJ; Very Special Cousin Who Was Like a Sister – Juanita Hall of Raleigh, NC; Special Cousin – Faye Johnson of Santuck, SC; Special Friend – Glynis West of New Brunswick, NJ; His Prayer Partners of New Jersey; and a host of other cousins and faithful friends in Union and New Jersey. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. at Thomas Chapel A.M.E. Church, Union, SC. Mr. Tucker will be placed in the church at 1:00 P.M. to await the hour of service. Local arrangements are entrusted to Divine Mortuary Union, SC.
