Mrs. Lantha M. Lipsey

On Monday February 1, 2016, God in his infinite wisdom called Lantha Foster Lipsey (affectionately known as “Lut”) into His loving and eternal care. The daughter of the late Ms. Ollie Smith and Mr. James Silas McKissick, Mrs. Lipsey was born on July 21, 1921, in Union County, SC. At an early age, she joined the Red Hill Baptist Church in Union County where she was a faithful and dedicated member; serving as the church choir leader, secretary, Missionary President and food service director for many years. She was known throughout the surrounding area for her signature song, “Standing Outside.” Lantha was inducted into Enterprise Chapter #105 Order of the Eastern Stars in 1986 and served faithfully as Chapter Chaplin until her health declined. She leaves to cherish fond memories eight daughters, Betty (Ralph) Lipsey of Brooklyn, NY, Brenda Parks, Sandra Foster, Rhonda (Clifford) Thomas, Mamie Lipsey, Kathy Lipsey, and Grace Lipsey of Union, SC, Carol (Vernon) Umstead of Houston, TX; four sons, Tharnon (Ida) Lipsey of Kingstree, SC, Keny (Penny) Foster of Fort Lauderdale, FL, Michael (Miranda) Foster, and Ralph (Hattie) Lipsey of Union, SC; two grandchildren raised in the home, Robin (Weldon) Rodgers and Marcus (Fadetra) Foster of Union, SC; two daughters-in-law, Mary D. Foster and Emma Foster of Union, SC; a son-in-law, William Mulligan of Beaufort, SC and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Foster and Ralph Earl Lipsey; two sons, James Franklin Foster and Robert Lynn Foster; and two daughters, Doris Carol Mulligan and Eleanor Faye Lipsey; one sister, Lothan Coleman; and six brothers, James, Lawrence, Waddell, Henry, Charlie and Gary McKissick. The family will receive friends at the home, 218 Center Road, Union, SC. Viewing will be held on Saturday from noon until 6 PM , with the Eastern Star Ceremony at 5 PM at Divine Mortuary, Union, SC. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, February 6, 2016 at 2 PM at Mt. Rowell Baptist Church. Mrs. Lipsey will be placed in the church at 1 PM to await the hour of service.
